A mirror-like water body in the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies, Mount Lorette Ponds is a popular spot for walking, paddling, photography and fishing (the ponds are stocked with several species of trout three times a year). Once a loop of the Kananaskis River, the picturesque site is about 93 km (58 mi) from Calgary in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, part of the Kananaskis park system and a bucket-list destination for hikers, mountain bikers and campers.
In summer, the well-maintained 700 m (2,297 ft) Mount Lorette Ponds Trail is fully accessible to everyone from babies in strollers to people using wheelchairs. Onsite washrooms and a picnic site makes this a great place to spend the day surrounded by mountain scenery. Find the day-use area off Highway 40 south of Porcupine Creek and north of Mount Allan Viewpoint.
